Ben Kiel

Ballast specimen

Ballast’s playfully punchy voice emerged when Ben Kiel compressed an Egyptienne typeface into an extra-narrow width for New York magazine. After modifying the typeface for Supermajority, Ben continued evolving Ballast’s concept, exaggerating the ball terminals and carving out as much space as he possibly could to allow tight, dense typesetting.

Project status

Ballast is in active development. Future updates will include:

  • Additional weights
  • Additional widths
